The government has announced a three-day state mourning from Wednesday (December 31) to Friday (January 2) and general holiday on Wednesday (December 31) following the death of BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.
Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus announced the decision in a televised address to the nation on Tuesday.
“I humbly appeal to everyone to maintain discipline in all forms of mourning, including the namaz-e-janaza,” he said.
Special prayers will be held in all mosques across Bangladesh on Friday, January 2, 2026, for the eternal peace of the departed soul. Special prayers will also be held in other religious institutions.
