Dhaka University has announced a three-day mourning programme to express deep sorrow and respect following the death of former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia.

The mourning will be observed from Tuesday to Thursday, during which all classes and examinations at the university have been suspended.

As part of the observance, the national flag has been flown at half-mast across all university buildings. The administration has stated that future programmes at the university will be aligned with the state mourning schedule.

Several commemorative activities, including academic seminars, are planned to honour the political life and contributions of Begum Khaleda Zia. From Tuesday, Quran recitations, prayers, and supplications are taking place across all halls, hostels, and mosques in the residential areas, including the central Masjidul Jamia, seeking forgiveness for the departed soul. Special prayer sessions will also be organised at other religious places of worship.

In addition, the university administration has arranged special transportation for teachers, students, officers, and staff to attend Begum Khaleda Zia’s funeral, which will be held at Manik Mia Avenue after Zohr prayers on Wednesday.
