Nomination papers of candidates for a parliamentary constituencies in 85 Jashore -1 was scrutinised on Thursday for the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
After scrutiny, Jashore Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Asek Hasan declared the nomination papers of BNP-nominated candidate Nuruzzaman Liton and Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Maulana Azizur Rahman for the 85 Jashore -1 constituency as valid.
The decision was made following the scrutiny process held at the Jashore Deputy Commissioner’s Office, where the Returning Officer examined the nomination papers of candidates contesting from the 85 Jashore -1 seat.
Out of seven candidates in the 85 Jashore -1 (Sharsha) constituency, the nomination papers of three were cancelled. The nominations of Mofikul Hasan Tripti was rejected for failing to submit party nomination papers, while the nominations of Sharsha Upazila BNP President Abul Hasan Jahir and another independent candidate, Shahjahan Ali Goldar, were cancelled due to discrepancies in the signatures of one percent of voters, as required for independent candidates.
The nomination paper of Bakhtiar Rahman from Islami Andolon Bangladesh was also declared valid.
According to sources at the Jashore District Election Office, a total of 46 candidates submitted nomination papers across six parliamentary constituencies in the district. Of them, 10 are from BNP, six from Jamaat-e-Islami, 10 independent candidates, six from Islami Andolon Bangladesh, six from Jatiya Party, one each from BNF, BASAD, JAGPA, CPB, Khelafat Majlish and Minority Janata Party, and two from the AB Party.
Earlier, a total of 71 aspirants had collected nomination papers for the six constituencies
