Two accused, Sanjay Chisim and Md Faisal, on Thursday gave confessional statements in court in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jamshed Alam recorded their statements and sent them to jail after police produced them before the court and filed a plea to record their statements.

On the day, the investigation officer of the case, DB Police Inspector Faisal Ahmed, produced the duo before the court after a three-day remand and submitted a petition to record their statements after they expressed willingness to give voluntary confessional statements.

The court also sent Sibiun Dew to jail after his remand. On 14 December, Sanjay Chisim and Sibiun Dew were arrested from the Nalitabari border area in Sherpur for their alleged involvement in aiding the main accused, shooter Faisal Karim Masud, to cross the border.

On 16 December, RAB detained Faisal from the Narsingdi area. They also recovered a pistol and bullets believed to have been used in the murder.

According to police, the weapon was recovered based on information provided by Saheda Parvin Samia, wife of the case’s prime accused and fugitive shooter Faisal Karim Masud.

On 12 December, Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate from the Dhaka-8 constituency, was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road under Paltan Model Police Station.

Later, after reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area, it was found that while Sharif Osman Hadi and his associate were travelling in a battery-operated auto-rickshaw, two unidentified assailants arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on Hadi with the intent to kill.

Hadi was seriously injured in the shooting and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment. After surgery there, he was transferred to Evercare Hospital. Subsequently, on 15 December, he was sent to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he later died.

Police later claimed that after reviewing the footage, they identified Faisal Karim Masud and Alamgir Sheikh as the attackers, with Faisal firing the shots and Alamgir driving the motorcycle.

On 14 December, Javed, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed a case with Paltan Model Police Station over the incident.
