Tasnim Jara, in an instant reaction, said that she will file an appeal to the Election Commission.
She said, ”The nomination paper I submitted as an independent candidate for Dhaka-9 has not been accepted at this stage. However, we will appeal. I have already started the appeal process.”
Independent candidates are required to submit verified signatures from at least 1 per cent of registered voters in their constituency.
She said, ”Election officials randomly selected 10 voters from the list of registered voters submitted with her nomination papers for verification. Eight of those confirmed their signatures, one could not be reached by phone and another said he was not a registered voter of the constituency.”
She said one of the selected voters lived in Khilgaon, outside the constituency, while another voter’s National Identity Card showed an address beyond Dhaka-9. The Dhaka-9 constituency includes the areas of Sabujbagh, Khilgaon, Mugda and Manda.
