Jagannath University Central Students’ Union (JnUCSU) election’s vote counting has been suspended due to technical faults in Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) machines.

Election officials confirmed the information on Tuesday night, stating some technical faults were detected in OMR machines.

The polling ended at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, after which counting began at the university’s central auditorium.

However, shortly after the process started, the election commission reported technical problems with the OMR machines, forcing an immediate halt to the counting. As of 9:30 pm, the process remained suspended.

Election Commissioner Professor Kaniz Fatema Kakoli said the machines had developed technical glitches and efforts were underway to resolve the issue. “We are trying to fix the problem. Regardless of the situation, the results will be published with full transparency,” she said.

Amid the uncertainty, Jagannath University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim held a meeting with candidates in the boardroom to discuss the situation.

The delay in counting led to growing anxiety among candidates and their supporters, who gathered outside the central auditorium awaiting updates. Additional police were deployed to maintain law and order on campus.
