The deployment will be made to ensure law and order to facilitate a free, fair, impartial, peaceful and festive election.According to a circular, the deployment will begin on 8 February, four days before the polls and will remain in the field until 14 February.
The election will involve approximately 127.5 million voters, with polling to take place at around 260,000 booths in nearly 43,000 polling stations across 300 constituencies.
Between 13 and 18 members of the law enforcement agencies will be stationed at each polling centre. In total, more than 800,000 personnel from various forces will be deputed for the task.
Of them, about 550,000 members of the Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) will be assigned to polling stations. Some 1.50 lakh police personnel, one lakh members of the armed forces, and 35,000 Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel will be on duty to maintain law and order.
Additionally, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) and the Bangladesh Coast Guard will assist in maintaining security.
The enforcement will be in accordance with the decisions made at the coordination meetings of the Election Commission with the law enforcement agencies.
The EC held two coordination meetings with senior officials of law enforcement agencies – one before and another after the announcement of the election schedule on 11 December.
Following the decisions of the meetings, the home ministry issued the circular detailing the comprehensive security deployment plan.
