Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain on Monday said a decision has been taken to sell assets of the Nassa Group, following court orders, to pay lawful arrears of wages and service benefits to its workers.
He made the statement at the 15th meeting of the Advisory Council Committee on the review of labour and business conditions of industrial units in Beximco Industrial Park, held at the Secretariat here, said a press release.
The adviser said that through a court-appointed administrator, shares of the Nassa Group have already been sold and Taka 76 crore has been paid to the workers as part of their dues. In addition, following the directives from Bangladesh Bank (BB), the Nassa Group has already made down payments to eight banks.
Necessary steps will be taken to pay the down payments of the remaining 15 banks as well as the outstanding dues of workers by selling some properties of the Nassa Group through open and competitive bidding, in accordance with court directives, he added.
The meeting was attended, among others, by the Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, a Deputy Governor of Bangladesh Bank, the Additional Inspector General of the Industrial Police, senior officials from several ministries and divisions, Nassa Group administrators, and representatives of various commercial banks.
