Newly appointed US Ambassador Brent Christensen called on Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury to discuss his plans for the judiciary and potential turfs for cooperation to strengthen the security and bilateral commitment of both Bangladesh and the United States of America.

The US Ambassador was accompanied by another few officials from the US Embassy, Dhaka during the meeting at Chief Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury’s office on Wednesday. The Chief Justice welcomed Brent Christensen and expressed hope that the existing friendly relationship between Bangladesh and USA will become all the more consolidated in days to come.

Expressing optimism over the future of the two countries, US Ambassador to Bangladesh Brent T Christensen said yesterday (21 January 2026) that his country does not take any side and it is the ‘sovereign decision’ of the people of Bangladesh who they want to elect.

“We don’t take any side,” he said during his first interaction with a small group of journalists at the EMK Center in Dhaka.

The US Ambassador said he looks forward to Bangladesh’s historical elections next month for smooth democratic transition for Bangladesh’s people.

Brent Christensen presented his credentials to Bangladesh President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban a few days ago. Brent Christensen has been sent to Bangladesh from the US State Department as an Ambassador at a very crucial time while Bangladesh is heading for the 13th parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on 12 February 2026.
