BNP Chairman and chief patron of Amra BNP Poribar, Tarique Rahman, has extended support to a housewife who was reportedly divorced for voting for the BNP in the 13th national parliamentary election held on Thursday.
Following Tarique Rahman’s instructions, a delegation of Amra BNP Poribar visited the residence of the victim, Bibi Johora, at Bashtola area of Dharmapur Union under Feni Sadar on Saturday afternoon.
The delegation, led by Amra BNP Poribar Member Secretary Moksedul Momin Mithun, enquired about Johora’s overall condition, provided her with financial assistance and assured support for her children’s education and overall welfare.
Speaking on the occasion, Mithun said the organisation would stand by the family on humanitarian grounds and take necessary initiatives to ensure continued assistance.
Among those present were Rafiqul Alam Majnu, the newly elected MP from Feni-1 constituency; BNP National Executive Committee Joint Secretary for Local Government Affairs Belal Ahmed; BNP National Executive Committee members Mashiur Rahman Biplob and Abu Taleb; Feni Sadar Upazila BNP Member Secretary Aman Uddin Kaiser Sabbir; Feni Municipality BNP Convener Delwar Hossain Babul and Member Secretary Mezbah Uddin Bhuiyan.
Also present were Feni District Jubo Dal Convener Nasir Uddin Khandaker, Member Secretary Naeem Ullah Chowdhury Barat, member Ahsan Suman, Feni District Chhatra Dal General Secretary Morshed Alam Milon, and other local leaders.
According to local sources, Bibi Johora is currently facing uncertainty along with her three children following the divorce pronounced by her husband, Ismail Hossain Kawser. The validity of the divorce under Shariah law is currently under review.
Local residents said that if the divorce is deemed effective, arrangements must be made to rehabilitate the mother and her children, including monthly allowances, family cards, and inclusion under social safety net programmes.
