Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman will become the opposition leader in the 13th parliament, and NCP Convener Nahid Islam will serve as the opposition chief whip, the opposition alliance decided in a meeting on Tuesday.
Jmaat Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Muhammad Taher will serve as the deputy leader of the opposition, it was decided in the meeting held after 297 elected lawmakers took oath on the Parliament premises.
Md Abdul Karim, Jamaat’s chief in Gaibandha district and elected lawmaker from Gaibandha-2, announced the decisions. A joint press conference of the 11-party alliance will be held soon to make a formal announcement, Md Abdul Karim told reporters.
Shafiqur Rahman has been elected from Dhaka-15 constituency, Nahid from Dhaka-11, and Taher from Cumilla-11.
