Newly appointed Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed on Thursday directed police and other law enforcement agencies to earn public trust and quickly meet people’s expectations.

He issued the directive at a meeting with heads of departments and agencies under the Home Ministry at the Secretariat.

Salahuddin said the country formed a political government through a transparent election after nearly one and a half decades, raising public expectations. “We want to implement our election manifesto swiftly. To carry out democratic reforms in the police and other law enforcement agencies in line with public expectations, we must first set our priorities,” he said.

The minister said the government seeks to rebuild institutions under the Home Ministry and improve ethics to regain public confidence. He stressed the need to recruit adequate manpower and secure budget allocations from the Finance Ministry to achieve those goals. “Through new recruitment and coordinated efforts, we aim to reach our targets,” he added.

Salahuddin also called for a comprehensive and modern plan to strengthen police and other law enforcement agencies. He instructed officials to prepare recommendations to help determine reform priorities and ensure effective implementation.

Home Ministry Secretary (Routine Charge) Md Delwar Hossain, Inspector General of Police Baharul Alam, BPM, and heads of various departments and agencies attended the meeting.
