State Minister for Fisheries, Livestock, Agriculture and Food Sultan Salauddin Tuku said the government will supply protein-rich foods, including milk, eggs, meat, and fish, at subsidised prices to low-income families during the holy month of Ramadan.
The initiative, part of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s ongoing commitment to public welfare, aims to reach nearly 10 lakh families across the country, helping stabilise market prices and benefit ordinary consumers.
The state minister made the announcement at a launch ceremony this morning at the Livestock Research Institute in Mohakhali, where the Ramadan food programme was officially inaugurated.
“To fulfil the promises made by the Prime Minister to the nation, we must work with honesty and dedication,” Tuku said. “Only through collective cooperation can we advance our country on the path of development and prosperity.”
He noted that unscrupulous traders often hike prices during Ramadan, increasing hardship for low-income families. “This government initiative will ease their suffering, and we plan to expand the programme further in the future,” he added.
Tuku also highlighted upcoming initiatives to implement family cards, agriculture cards, and health cards to meet public expectations. He emphasised the importance of integrity, dedication, and coordinated teamwork in serving the people.
Recalling the nation’s political history, he said, “BNP founder, the late President Ziaur Rahman, earned a place in the hearts of the people through his service, and Begum Khaleda Zia endured hardships to uphold democracy and protect citizens’ rights.”
The event was chaired by Md Abu Sufian, Director General of the Department of Livestock, and attended by special guests including Secretary of the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Abu Taher Muhammad Zaber, BPI Central Council President Moshiur Rahman, and BCFFA President Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, along with senior officials from the ministry and department.
