Polling agent for paddy sheaf candidate in Jashore-1 constituency Murdered by rivals

A polling agent for paddy sheaf candidate  in the Jashore-1 constituency was hacked to death allegedly by rivals  while returning home after offering Tarawih prayers in Sharsha upazila of Jashore last night.

The incident took place around 10:30pm on Thursday (February 19) in Baripota village under the Navaron area of the upazila.

The deceased was identified as Al-Amin, 35, son of Rofiqul Islam of the same village. He had served as a polling agent for paddy sheaf candidate Nuruzzaman Liton in the Jashore-1 constituency during the last national parliamentary election in Baripota Center.

According to police and local sources, Al-Amin was on his way home after offering Tarawih prayers when a group of assailants attacked him with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the assault.

Locals rescued him in a bloodied condition and rushed him to Sharsha Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

On information, police visited the scene and began an investigation.

Shah Alam, investigation officer of Sharsha Police Station, said police have already detained four suspects in connection with the murder and started questioning them. “They have begun providing important information,” he added. The body was sent to Jashore General Hospital on Friday (February 20) morning for an autopsy.
