Govt to distribute ‘Family Card’ in 14 upazilas on 10 March

The government will begin distributing ‘Family Card’ on a pilot basis in 14 upazilas from 10 March, with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman set to inaugurate the programme.

Tk2,500 will be given to the women in financial assistance through each family card, aimed at empowering women and supporting marginalised and low-income families.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee formed to implement the government’s key electoral pledge to launch the ‘Family Card’ scheme.

The meeting was held in the conference room of the Cabinet Division in the Bangladesh Secretariat here on Tuesday (24 February), with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in the chair.

Among those present at the meeting were Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury; Social Welfare and Women and Children’s Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain; Prime Minister’s Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir; State Ministers Mir Shahe Alam and Farzana Sharmin; Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani; and other senior officials.
