Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has accused President Md Sahabuddin of violating his oath of office by publicly disclosing sensitive and confidential state matters in a recent newspaper interview, with the party expressing deep concern over the implications for national stability.
Jamaat Secretary General and former MP Mia Golam Parwar issued the statement on Wednesday (February 25), sharply criticizing the president’s conduct and calling it incompatible with the dignity of the highest constitutional office.
“The presidency is the highest constitutional position in the country. Every statement and action by the person holding this office carries immense national significance and is bound by the oath of office and the principles of state confidentiality,” Parwar said.
He accused the president of breaching his sworn duty by revealing internal and classified state affairs during the interview, describing it as a failure to protect the trust placed in the office.
“President Sahabuddin has violated his oath by disclosing confidential matters of the state publicly. This has raised serious questions, debates, and concerns among the people of the country,” the Jamaat leader said.
Parwar said the president’s remarks have created fresh controversy and uncertainty before the nation, particularly on matters related to the constitution, the oath of office, and constitutional continuity.
“By making such statements while holding the office of president, he has breached his oath, which is entirely inconsistent with the dignity and stature of the state,” he added.
The secretary general stressed that transparency, accountability, and constitutional decorum in state affairs are the duty of every person in a position of responsibility.
He urged restraint from all those holding public office, particularly given the current political landscape.
Parwar called on the president to remain respectful of the constitution and the law in all future statements and to exercise greater caution in preserving the dignity and stability of the state. “Public trust in state institutions must be maintained, and this requires the president to act within the boundaries of the constitution,” he said.
The statement marks the second time in two days that Jamaat-e-Islami has publicly criticized President Sahabuddin, after party Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Tuesday called the president’s conduct from the highest office “unacceptable” and questioned contradictions between his current account and earlier statements regarding the August 5 political transition.
