Until a new appointment is made for Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner, Additional Police Commissioner (Supernumerary Additional IGP) Md. Sarwar will serve as acting head of the force.

The announcement was made in an official notification signed by Additional DIG (Personnel Management-1) Shamima Yasmin Khondkar on Thursday.

Earlier, DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sazzat Ali submitted his resignation citing “personal and family” reasons, even though his contract was set to continue until November.

Sheikh Md. Sazzat Ali, an officer of 1984 batch of BCS Police cadre, was previously dismissed from service in November 2016 while serving as Additional IGP at Police Headquarters during the tenure of previous Awami League government.

Following the fall of Awami League government, the caretaker administration reinstated him. He later assumed office as 38th Commissioner of DMP on November 20, 2024.
