Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has nominated district BNP president Rezaul Karim Badsha as its candidate for Bogura-6 by-election, following the seat’s vacancy by party chairman Tarique Rahman.

The nomination was officially confirmed on Thursday through a letter signed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

BNP Media Cell member Shayrul Kabir Khan confirmed that Rezaul Karim Badsha will formally contest the by-election on behalf of the party.

Tarique Rahman had contested the 13th national parliamentary elections on 12 February from both Dhaka-17 and Bogura-6 constituencies, winning both seats.

According to the law, an individual can hold only one parliamentary seat, so he chose to retain Dhaka-17 and vacated Bogura-6, prompting the by-election.
