Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman has demanded exemplary punishment for those involved in recent rape and murder cases in Dhaka and Narsingdi.
He made the call in a post on his verified Facebook page on Friday morning. In the post, Shafiqur Rahman said the brutal rape and murder of a six-year-old child in Dhaka, the gang rape and killing of a 15-year-old girl in Narsingdi, and the killing of a schoolgirl in Hazaribagh have shocked the nation.
He alleged political links in the incidents and criticised what he described as administrative negligence in certain cases. He questioned how leaders of a party in power could attempt to shield perpetrators and intimidate victims’ families instead of ensuring justice.
Referring to the killing of a child named Tahiya, he asked who had tried to portray the murder as an accident and who had allegedly threatened the family to withdraw the case. He said the public now understands the motives of those involved.
Shafiqur Rahman said no civilised and democratic society can tolerate the misuse of political identity and power to suppress victims and protect offenders.
“Our position is clear. We will not compromise on justice,” he wrote. “Authorities must immediately bring the culprits under the law, conduct transparent investigations and ensure exemplary punishment.”
He also urged the state to guarantee security, medical support, legal assistance and rehabilitation for the affected families.
The Jamaat ameer expressed condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the departed souls. He said his party would continue its struggle to establish justice for all oppressed people in the country.
