NCP Convener Nahid Islam has urged the Election Commission (EC) to take into consideration the country’s ongoing political situation when announcing the schedule for the next general elections, scheduled to be held in February.

Nahid also urged the EC to plan the schedule in a way that would allow all political parties, irrespective of their size, to take adequate preparations, he told reporters after the meeting.

He made the recommendations in a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner AMM Nasir Uddin at the EC head office, Agargaon, in the capital on Wednesday.

Nahid and other NCP leaders was visiting the EC head office to receive the certificate on their party’s registration.

Khaleda Zia, who fought for democracy for a long time, has fallen seriously ill, creating a political crisis, he said. On top of this, there is another political trouble brewing, Nahid said without specifying. He has called on the EC to consider all these factors in their plans for schedule announcement.

The CEC has not specified a date for announcing the schedule, but has noted that it would be declared at any day next week, Nahid added.
