Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul announced that holders of recognised Qawmi madrasa degrees can now serve as marriage registrars (Kazi).

He shared the update on his Facebook account on Sunday.

Prof Asif Nazrul said, “From now on, holders of recognised Qawmi madrasa degrees can become marriage registrars (Kazi). Previously, this opportunity was limited to individuals with Alim certificates.”

He added that the Ministry of Law has amended regulations to expand eligibility. “From today, individuals who hold the Dawra-e-Hadith certificate from a recognised Qawmi madrasa board can also apply for this position,” he said.

This decision broadens access to the role, allowing more qualified religious scholars to perform official marriage registration duties across Bangladesh.
