The Election Commission (EC) has requested the Ministry of Public Administration to appoint executive magistrates across the country to ensure strict enforcement of the electoral code of conduct during the upcoming 13th parliamentary election.
The request, made in a letter on Thursday and signed by EC Deputy Secretary Mohammad Monir Hossain, calls for at least two executive magistrates to be deployed in each upazila or police station area from the day after the election schedule is announced until two days after polling.
The EC emphasized that the magistrates’ presence is necessary to ensure compliance with the Mobile Court Act 2009, under which violations of the code of conduct can be swiftly addressed.
The commission asked the ministry to take the necessary steps to deploy the magistrates for the specified period, ensuring a free and fair election process.
Preparatory activities for the 13th national elections are already underway and the EC highlighted that strict enforcement of the code of conduct is crucial to maintain electoral discipline and transparency.
