The body of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi is likely to arrive in Bangladesh from Singapore on Friday evening.

A commercial flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the body is scheduled to depart Singapore around 3:50pm (local time), Inqilab Moncho said in a post on its Facebook page in the early hours of Friday.

The flight is expected to land at the Dhaka airport around 6:05pm (Bangladesh time), it said. On Friday morning, the first namaz-e-janaza of Hadi will be held at Angullia Mosque in Singapore.

In Bangladesh, his funeral prayer will be held on Manik Mia Avenue after Juhr prayer on Saturday, the Moncho said.

In another post, it urged the public to refrain from any form of violence.

Protests erupted in Dhaka and other parts of the country soon after news of Hadi’s death spread on Thursday night.

Protesters attacked the offices of the Prothom Alo and The Daily Star, setting them on fire. Arson attacks were also reported in other places of the country.

One of the leaders of the July Uprising, Hadi was shot and critically injured on Box Culvert Road in the capital’s Paltan area on 12 December.

He sustained bullet injuries to the head and was initially taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he underwent surgery, before being transferred to Evercare Hospital later that night.

He was admitted to Singapore General Hospital on Monday after being flown to Singapore by air ambulance. He passed away on Thursday night while undergoing treatment there.

Hadi was also a prospective independent candidate for the upcoming national election from the Dhaka-8 constituency.
