International media outlets are closely covering the unfolding situation in Bangladesh following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, convener of Inquilab Moncho, with several major news organisations highlighting the violence and political unrest that erupted in its aftermath.

Global broadcasters such as BBC and Al Jazeera have been reporting the developments through live blogs, tracking events as they unfold on the ground in Dhaka and elsewhere.

On Friday afternoon, Al Jazeera ran the headline, “Violence spreads in Bangladesh after influential protest leader’s death.”

The report said violent protests broke out following the death of a leader linked to last year’s student movement. Through its live blog, the network has been providing continuous updates on the evolving situation in the capital.

International news agency Reuters published a report headlined, “Bangladesh rocked by death of student leader, government blames fringe elements.”

It said the death of the student leader, at a time when elections are approaching, has fuelled instability.

The report mentioned attacks on media offices as well as political and cultural establishments, noting that the government has declared a day of national mourning and urged people to remain calm.

The BBC, in a report titled “Violence continues in Bangladesh after death of young protest leader,” said unrest erupted following the death of Sharif Osman Hadi, described as one of the key figures in 2024 movement that led to the ouster of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.

The report also noted that a group vandalised and set fire to the offices of The Daily Star and Prothom Alo.

News about the situation in the country has also appeared on the online platforms of India’s NDTV and The Times of India, as well as Pakistan-based media outlets Dawn and Geo TV.

Sharif Osman Hadi was shot on December 12 on Kalvert Road in the capital’s Bijoynagar area by assailants riding a motorcycle. He was taken to Singapore for advanced treatment on Monday, where he died on Thursday while undergoing treatment.
