The National Citizen Party (NCP) and the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) have joined the eight-party electoral alliance led by the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.

Jamaat Ameer Shafiqur Rahman made the announcement at a press conference held at the Jatiya Press Club in Dhaka on Sunday afternoon.

With the inclusion, the alliance has expanded to 10 political parties.

Shafiqur said the alliance partners have reached an understanding on seat-sharing in several constituencies through discussions.

“Although several other political parties have expressed interest in joining the alliance, the current situation does not allow for the inclusion of any party at the moment,” he said.

LDP President Col (retd) Oli Ahmed and senior leaders of the eight parties were present at the press conference, but no representative from the NCP attended the event.

Shafiqur said the NCP would hold a separate press conference to formally announce its joining the new alliance.

Apart from the NCP, LDP, and Jamaat, other parties in the alliance include Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, Khelafat Majlis, Nezam-e-Islam Party, Bangladesh Khelafat Andolan, Bangladesh Development Party, and Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (NDP).
