Tajnuva Jabeen, joint convener of the National Citizen Party (NCP), has resigned from the party, announcing her decision through a post on her verified Facebook page on Sunday.

In her post, Tajnuva said she had stepped down from the NCP and would not be able to contest the upcoming national parliamentary election.

“With a very heavy heart, I announce that I have resigned from the NCP today. I will not be able to take part in the forthcoming national election,” she wrote.

Expressing personal anguish over the decision, she said the timing had been particularly painful. “What hurts the most is that my mother was arriving from Chattogram today for my election campaign, and today itself I was forced to make this decision. I know many people are deeply hurt by my decision, but this is what is right for me,” she wrote, adding that had there been even minimal hope, she might have reconsidered out of self-respect.

Tajnuva also addressed the issue of campaign donations, assuring supporters that all contributions would be returned. “I will return the donations you have sent, one by one. Please give me some time. I will share detailed updates on how I will refund them gradually. Every single taka will be returned,” she said.

Thanking her supporters, she wrote, “I am grateful for your support and love.”

Reflecting on her political journey, Tajnuva said she had never been involved in politics before. “I came to the streets in July with the aim of change, to try something new. I will continue that effort for the rest of my life,” she said, adding that her voice for democratic transformation in the country would remain strong.

She further noted that the political space for a centrist, Bangladesh-focused new arrangement remains vacant. “I will keep trying to fill that space. Time will tell the rest,” she added.

Last night, NCP leader Tasnim Jara resigned as the party’s senior joint member secretary and announced that she will contest the upcoming election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-9.
