Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has launched a dedicated website to receive information directly on extortion, land grabbing and other crimes in his constituency, Thakurgaon-1.

The website is accessible at  www.alamgirfortomorrow.com

He announced the initiative in a post on his verified Facebook page on Thursday.

Addressing residents of Thakurgaon-1, he wrote that any incidents of extortion, land grabbing, injustice, crime or other problems in any area of the constituency can be reported to him directly through the website.

He also mentioned that since the site was inaugurated on 7 January, it has received a strong response. Numerous complaints and messages have already been submitted, which his team is currently verifying and compiling. He assured that each message would be responded to soon.

Ali Akkas, a local businessman, said fear of extortion often prevents people from speaking out publicly. “If we can report directly through the website, at least there is some reassurance. If prompt action is truly taken, it will bring a major change,” he said.

Rokeya Begum, a teacher, said it is a positive example that a public representative has introduced a platform to hear complaints directly. “Ensuring that people can report safely is now the most important issue,” she added.

Morshed Ali, a young resident, said receiving complaints online is the need of the time. “But it is not enough to just take messages. There must be visible action. People want to see results,” he said.

He further noted that raising issues locally sometimes worsens the situation. “With a website, at least the matter can be escalated. We want assurance that identities will be kept confidential when complaints are filed,” he added.
