Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury emphasized a results-oriented approach to governance on Sunday, stating that his administration will prioritize substantive work over premature public statements.

“We want to talk less and work more,” he told reporters shortly after assuming charge of the Planning Ministry, signaling a deliberate shift toward action-driven leadership.

The minister, who also oversees the Finance Ministry, made clear that he would take time to thoroughly assess ongoing programmes and consult with officials before announcing detailed policy directions.

“I have just arrived. There is no benefit in speaking too much in advance. Let me settle down, review the situation and speak with officials. In due time, everything will be communicated,” he said.

Amir Khosru noted that he had taken office only days earlier and was still familiarizing himself with the ministry’s workload, existing commitments and institutional challenges.

He stressed the need for informed, evidence-based decisions rather than speculative remarks.

“I have just entered the office. It is important to review everything carefully and hold discussions with the officials. After proper review, it will be easier to present objective and substantive statements,” he said.

When asked by reporters about his plans and priorities, including long-term economic goals such as achieving a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, the minister declined to provide immediate details.

He reiterated that any meaningful policy framework would only emerge after a comprehensive evaluation.

He assured that transparency and regular communication would follow once the review process was complete. “There is no reason for concern. Everything will be shared in due course,” he said. “It is important to settle down first, review the situation and then speak based on facts.”

The minister also responded cautiously to questions about overcosted or delayed development projects, a persistent issue in Bangladesh’s public investment sector.

He said such matters were already under administrative review and would be addressed through proper institutional channels.

“All issues are in process. It has only been two days since I assumed office. These matters require careful review and discussions. After reviewing everything, we will speak in a more substantive manner,” he said.

Amir Khosru warned against making statements without adequate assessment, which he said could lead to incomplete or inaccurate conclusions.

He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering fact-based information following internal evaluations.

“For the sake of saying something, I do not think that is appropriate. What is needed is objective and substantive statements,” he added.

The Planning Ministry holds a critical role in Bangladesh’s development framework, responsible for approving and monitoring projects under the Annual Development Programme, formulating five-year plans and coordinating long-term national economic strategies.

The minister’s remarks come as Bangladesh pursues ambitious economic objectives, including sustaining high growth, improving project execution efficiency and strengthening institutional capacity to support long-term development goals.
