Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury on Wednesday dismissed any concerns about a potential deterioration in law and order surrounding August 5, assuring that the overall security situation remains stable.

Speaking to reporters at the Secretariat, the adviser made the remarks a day after Special Branch (SB) of Police issued a notice alerting about a possible law and order risk.

Clarifying the situation, Jahangir Alam said the operation mentioned in SB notice is not a nationwide initiative but rather an effort led by Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

“Various operations are carried out from time to time based on specific needs. There is no security concern about August 5. If Allah wills, everything will proceed peacefully,” he said.

Responding to questions on the status of on-arrival visas, the Home Adviser confirmed that there has been no cancellation of the facility.

“We continue to provide on-arrival visas to nationals from countries with which we have agreements. For countries without such agreements, the facility does not apply,” he explained.
