Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has expressed gratitude to former US President Donald Trump and the government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus after the United States lowered tariffs on Bangladeshi exports from 35% to 20%.

In a Facebook post on Friday afternoon, Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr. Shafiqur Rahman welcomed the reduction in US-imposed tariffs on Bangladeshi products. He praised both the Bangladesh government’s diplomatic efforts and the “sincerity” of the US administration for achieving the outcome.

“Alhamdulillah, thanks to the effective efforts of Bangladesh government and the goodwill of the US government, the previously announced high tariff on Bangladeshi exports has been reduced to 20%,” Dr. Rahman wrote on his verified Facebook page. “I extend my gratitude to President Donald Trump and the government of Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.”

He also expressed optimism about Bangladesh’s future global engagement, stating, “I hope that Dr. Yunus, and those who will govern after him, will uphold Bangladesh’s dignity and carry out honorable responsibilities on the global diplomatic stage.”

The US recently revised tariff rates for over 90 countries, with Bangladesh receiving a reduction following negotiations. The development is seen as a positive sign for the country’s export-driven economy, which has faced mounting pressure amid shifting global trade policies. Dr. Rahman concluded his message by thanking all parties involved in the negotiations that led to the tariff cut.
