Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam has described the July Declaration as a powerful symbol of the ideals and collective will behind the July mass uprising, calling it a historical document that captures the essence of people’s movement.

Speaking to the media on Saturday after attending a commemorative rally at Dhaka’s Central Shaheed Minar, Mahfuj Alam said the declaration is being shaped through input from various political parties and is expected to be finalized and signed by 5 August.

“The July Declaration is not just a document—it reflects the vision of those who took to the streets for justice and change,” he said. “We are preserving these memories not just in words but through institutional efforts across multiple platforms.”

The adviser highlighted that 15 agencies under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting are currently engaged in preserving the legacy of the uprising. This includes information dissemination, archiving, and documentary production. Bangladesh Betar and BTV are airing special programmes, while the Press Information Department and the Press Institute of Bangladesh are conducting dedicated research on the events.

The Department of Films and Publications has already produced several documentaries, and the Bangladesh Film Archive is working on a long-term preservation project. In addition, the Journalist Welfare Trust has provided financial assistance to the families of journalists who were killed or injured during the movement.

Reflecting on the broad public participation in the final days of the uprising, Mahfuj Alam noted that teachers, cultural activists, and social workers played vital roles. “We launched our uprising at the Shaheed Minar, and we celebrated our triumph here. This place holds deep significance for the nation,” he said.

“As long as the sacrifices of the martyrs are remembered and the pain of the wounded is not forgotten, our commitment to building a new Bangladesh will stay alive,” the adviser added.

He also called for national unity to fulfill the aspirations born from the movement. “Through the sacrifices made, we have earned a renewed sense of freedom and an opportunity to rebuild this country together.”

The rally, organized by the Information Ministry, began at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium and concluded at the Central Shaheed Minar. It was attended by Information Secretary Mahbuba Farzana, along with ministry officials, employees, and members of the press.
