Chief Adviser inquires about Nur’s treatment, assures fair probe

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has inquired about the treatment and health condition of Gono Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur.

Around 1:00pm on Saturday, Dr Yunus phoned Nur, who is undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, and expressed concern over his condition. During the conversation, he assured a fair investigation into the incident that took place the previous night and promised appropriate action.

The information was confirmed by Abu Hanif, a senior council member and media coordinator of Gono Odhikar Parishad.

He said that Dr Yunus asked about Nur’s current health, and listened to a detailed account of the previous night’s events. The Chief Adviser assured him that an investigation would be carried out and those responsible would be held accountable.

On Friday night, more than fifty leaders and activists of Gono Odhikar Parishad, including its president Nurul Haque Nur, were injured when members of the army and police allegedly attacked them in front of Al Razi Tower at Bijoynagar following clashes between activists of the Jatiya Party and Gono Odhikar Parishad.

The incident drew condemnation from several political parties, including the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, which issued statements denouncing the attack.
