Bangladesh made a dominant start to their ICC Women’s ODI World Cup campaign by bowling out Pakistan for just 129 runs in their opening match at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.

A lethal pace-spin combination led by Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter dismantled the Pakistani batting lineup with ruthless efficiency.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Pakistan’s decision backfired almost immediately as Bangladesh’s young pace sensation Marufa Akter struck twice in the very first over. She removed Omaima Sohail and in-form Sidra Ameen in consecutive deliveries; both batters dismissed for ducks, setting the tone for a collapse.

With Pakistan reeling at 2 for 2, Muneeba Ali and Rameen Shamim tried to steady the innings but were soon undone by the experienced spinner Nahida Akter.

She first dismissed Muneeba for 17 off 35 balls and then sent back Shamim for 23 off 39 deliveries, breaking the backbone of Pakistan’s batting. Before reaching the 50-run mark, Pakistan had already lost four wickets.

The middle order also failed to recover, as Sidra Nawaz (15) fell to Rabeya Khan and Aliya Riaz (13) was bowled by Nishita Akter.

Captain Fatima Sana top-scored with 22 before falling lbw to Fahima Khatun. The lower order crumbled and Pakistan were eventually all out for 129 in 38.3 overs.

For Bangladesh, Swarna Akter was the standout performer with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 5 runs.Marufa Akter and Nahida Akter took two wickets each, while Nishita Akter, Fahima Khatun and Rabeya Khan chipped in with one wicket apiece.Bangladesh will now look to chase down the modest total and start their World Cup journey with a win.
