Jashore’s Sharsha upazila BNP general secretary and Jashore-1 constituency nomination aspirant for the BNP, Nuruzzaman Liton, said that Bangladesh remains safe in the hands of the Zia family.

“The Zia family has led the nation through every crisis. The founder of the BNP and martyred president Ziaur Rahman declared the country’s independence in 1971, giving birth to a sovereign Bangladesh,” he said.

Liton made the remarks on Tuesday afternoon during a mass outreach campaign at Bahadurpur union in Sharsha upazila, aimed at spreading BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman’s 31-point programme among grassroots people.

He urged party leaders and activists to strengthen Tarique Rahman’s leadership by engaging directly with ordinary citizens and seeking votes for the BNP’s election symbol, the sheaf of paddy.

“BNP also freed the nation from the autocratic rule of Ershad in 1990,” he added.

Among others present were Sharsha upazila BNP vice-president Abdul Majid; senior joint secretary advocate Mostafa Kamal Mintu; joint secretary Kamruzzaman; finance secretary Miyad Ali; information and technology affairs secretary Abdul Salam; freedom fighter affairs secretary Lutfur Rahman; agriculture affairs secretary Billal Hossain; Benapole municipality BNP organisational secretary Akhtaruzzaman; Sharsha upazila Jubo Dal convener Mostafizjohar Selim; Benapole municipality Jubo Dal convener Mofizur Rahman Babu; Bahadurpur union BNP president Saheb Ali; general secretary Robiul Islam Robi; organisational secretary Shukur Ali Khokon; Sharsha upazila Chhatra Dal convener Shariful Islam Chayon; Chhatra Dal leader Mohayeminul Sagar; and Benapole municipality Swechchhasebak Dal member secretary Omar Faruk.
