BNP Standing Committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has stressed the importance of respecting political consensus, warning that statements made outside agreed positions could deepen divisions in politics and society.
He made the remarks while speaking at the inaugural session of the newly built Engineer Abdul Khalek Auditorium at Chittagong Press Club on Friday.

Khasru noted that political dialogue based on consensus strengthens democracy and society. “Over the past 15 years, we have drifted away from dialogue and democratic processes. Through dialogue, we must bridge this gap,” he said, urging everyone to accept the consensus reached and exercise tolerance regarding unresolved matters.

On the topic of a “New Bangladesh,” Khasru emphasised that no government can achieve this alone; broad participation and responsibility are essential.

Chittagong City Corporation Mayor and BNP leader Dr. Shahadat Hossain praised Engineer Abdul Khalek as a visionary committed to the country’s independence.

He highlighted the need to uphold democratic rights, human dignity, rule of law, and social justice.

Daily Azadi editor M A Malek criticised the regional bias in media recognition, explaining that newspapers published outside Dhaka are often labeled “provincial.” He reaffirmed Daily Azadi’s mission to serve the people of Chittagong.

The event also featured remarks from the newspaper’s management, Chittagong Press Club officials, and journalist association representatives. The ceremony began with a Quran recitation by Mohammad Hossain.
