Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has announced a comprehensive nine day security operation designed to ensure a peaceful national election, with large scale deployments across all major law enforcement and security forces.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday at Patuakhali Circuit House, the adviser said the security plan spans five days before polling, election day itself, and three days after voting concludes.

He added that the time-frame could be adjusted depending on national situation. Chowdhury said the military presence will gradually increase, with troop numbers expected to rise from current 30,000 to nearly 100,000 during the election period. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will field around 35,000 personnel, while Navy and Coast Guard will contribute roughly 5,000 and 4,000 members respectively.

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will deploy about 8,000 officers. He underscored the central role of Ansar force, noting that an estimated 550,000 Ansar members will be engaged in election duties.

This year, Ansar personnel will be equipped with firearms and body cameras to strengthen security oversight and ensure more effective management at polling centres.

“There should be no doubt about security,” he said. “The election will take place peacefully, without question.”

Responding to questions about the recent change in government, the adviser stressed that it resulted from widespread public participation rather than the actions of a few individuals. “You saw how they left the country and how their associates departed.
