A symbolic hanging of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was staged at Shahbagh, Dhaka, on Monday evening following the International Crimes Tribunal-1 verdict sentencing her to death for crimes against humanity during the July uprising.

Former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was also sentenced to death, while former Police Inspector General Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, who testified against them, received five years in prison.

The event was organized by a group named “Moulik Bangla” in front of the National Museum. A doll dressed as a woman was made to represent Hasina, with her photo affixed to its face.

Two participants, acting as executioners, placed the doll on a makeshift gallows, and a black cloth was tied over its face. Another participant played the role of a magistrate, holding a handkerchief, before the doll was “hanged” by the executioners.

Organizers said the display was intended to pressure the government to bring Hasina back to Bangladesh and demonstrate that the country could witness the execution.

The group also announced plans to submit a memorandum to the Indian Embassy on Tuesday (November 18), demanding Hasina’s return.
