Five Myanmar security personnel detained in Bandarban

The BGB on Sunday detained five security personnel from Myanmar after they breached the border at Naikkhangchhori upazila in Bandarban.

According to locals, the Myanmar security personnel have admitted that they fled their outposts amid the raging conflict between junta and the rebels.

Cox’s Bazar BGB Sector Commander Col Md Mahiuddin told reporters that the border violators trespassed 1.5 kilometres inside Bangladesh territory and asked locals to provide shelter.

BGB 34 Camp Captain Lt Col SM Khairul Alam said legal measures will be taken against the detainees following initial interrogations.

The detainees include one army troop and four personnel of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP).

According to locals, they were spotted making suspicious movements in Gachhbunia area, Ghumdhum union Naikkhangchhori upazila around 12:30pm. When went to talk to them, they admitted they were seeking shelter from the conflict in Myanmar.
