A Dhaka court has granted permission to seize the income tax records of former Detective Branch (DB) chief Mohammad Harun-ur-Rashid.
The order was issued by Metropolitan Sessions Judge M Sabbir Faiz on Wednesday following a request from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
During the hearing, ACC Deputy Director Muhammad Zainal Abedin applied for the provision and seizure of Harun-ur-Rashid’s income tax documents.
The application stated that Harun-ur-Rashid allegedly acquired illicit wealth worth Tk 17.51 crore by abusing his official position, in violation of the ACC Act. The commission argued that reviewing his income tax records is essential for a proper investigation of the case.
After hearing the petition, the judge authorized the provision and seizure of the income tax documents for examination.
