Officials at a post-rally discussion today said production of skilled manpower and their safer migration are crucial for increasing remittance inflow to further strengthen the national economy.
They viewed this at the event arranged at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room in the city in observance of the International Migrants Day-2022.
The district administration and District Employment and Manpower Office and Technical Training Center, Rangpur jointly organised the rally, discussion, distribution of education scholarship and prizes marking the day.
Earlier, a rally with participation of government and NGO officials, returned expatriates, relatives of expatriates, overseas jobseekers, students, teachers and civil society members was brought out on the city streets.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Chitralekha Nazneen attended the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Md. Golam Rabbani in the chair.
Superintendent of Police Md. Ferdous Ali Chowdhury, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Utpal Roy and Additional Director of Rangpur Branch of Bangladesh Bank Md. Fazlar Rahman addressed the discussion as special guests.
Assistant Director of District Employment and Manpower Office Amena Parveen delivered a welcome speech.
She said the present government has taken various pragmatic steps to enhance skills and expertise of overseas jobseekers by imparting training and ensuring their safer migration, welfare, rights, dignity, honour and justice both at home and abroad.
“Appropriate long-term strategies, plans and programs have been adopted to make the migration system easier and hassle-free using the latest information and communication technologies,” she added.
Some expatriate Bangladeshis shared their experience and suggested overseas job-seekers for becoming skilled workforce before going abroad to earn more wages and live with dignity.
The speakers stressed on proper utilisation of the population dividend by turning youths into skilled workforce before sending them abroad following appropriate rules and procedures to ensure their better wages, safety, security and dignity.
Putting importance on ensuring appropriate facilities for expatriate Bangladeshis both at home and abroad, they said expatriate citizens are contributing to strengthening the national economy alongside maintaining the increasing trend of the remittance inflow.
Later, the chief guest distributed crests and certificates among highest remittance sender male and female expatriates of the district and their relatives, education scholarships among meritorious students of expatriates and prizes among winner students of different competitions arranged marking the day.
