Strict legal action will be taken against anyone attempting to disrupt the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) election, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali.
He issued the warning on Monday (September 1) while presiding over a coordination meeting on overall security and traffic management for the upcoming Ducsu Election 2025 at the DMP Headquarters conference room.
The highly anticipated DUCSU election is scheduled to take place on 9 September.
“We are fully prepared to provide all-out cooperation in line with the Election Commission’s directives for the Daksu polls,” the commissioner said. “Those who try to foil the election will face strict legal measures.”
He stressed that coordinated efforts from all government agencies are essential to ensure a safe and peaceful election, adding that joint work would help deliver a fair and smooth electoral process.
Earlier, DMP Joint Commissioner (Operations) Mohammad Shahidullah presented the comprehensive security plan for the election through a PowerPoint presentation.
Representatives of different agencies later joined an open discussion and shared their views.
The meeting was attended by DMP Additional Commissioners SN Md Nazrul Islam (Crime and Operations), Hasan Md Shawkat Ali (Logistics, Finance and Procurement), Md Masud Karim (CTTC), Md Shafiqul Islam (Detective Branch), and Md Zillur Rahman (Traffic), along with joint commissioners, deputy commissioners, and other police officials.
DU Proctor Saifuddin Ahmed; DUCSU Election Commission Chief Returning Officer Prof Dr Mohammad Jasim Uddin; assistant returning officers; student representatives; members of intelligence agencies; representatives of specialised police units; Fire Service and Civil Defence; and other government organisations attended at the meeting, among others.
