A fresh natural gas reserve has been discovered at the Rashidpur-3 well in Habiganj under Sylhet Gas Fields Limited (SGFL), officials announced on Friday following a workover operation.
According to an SGFL press release, the well is expected to yield around 25.55 billion cubic feet (bcf) of gas over the next decade.
The operation, carried out at an estimated cost of Tk73 crore, could generate gas with a market value of nearly Tk4,700 crore based on current global LNG prices. Officials also noted the potential recovery of condensate as a by-product, which would further boost output.
Bangladesh has been intensifying efforts to expand domestic gas supplies to ease reliance on costly imports, with Rashidpur-3 marking the latest addition to its energy portfolio.
