The government has decided to export 1,200 metric tonnes of hilsa to India in connection with the upcoming Durga Puja– the largest festival of the Hindu community.
The Commerce Ministry has, in principle, approved the “conditional” export of hilsa to India, following the practice of previous years, a senior official said on Monday.
The ministry has invited applications from interested exporters, with a deadline of September 11. The government has set a minimum export price of US$12.5 per kilogram to ensure fair value.
Last September, the government had permitted the conditional export of 3,000 metric tonnes of hilsa to India, also in observance of Durga Puja.
