Journalists  in Sharsha upazila formed a human chain and held a protest rally in front of the Sharsha Upazila Parishad on Sunday afternoon, demanding withdrawal of what they described as a “false and conspiratorial case” against Monirul Islam Monir, organisation secretary of Benapole Press Club.

Nearly a hundred journalists from both electronic and print media took part in the human chain and protest programme.

The rally was addressed by Anwarul Kobir Nantu, acting editor of Dainik Lok Samaj, Sheikh Dinu Ahmed, president of Jashore District Journalists’ Union; Dewan Morshed Alam, general secretary of Jashore District Journalists’ Union; Bakul Mahbub, general secretary of Benapole Press Club; Ahmad Ali Shahin, president of Sharsha Press Club; Abdul Mannan, general secretary of Sharsha Press Club; Rafiqul Islam, president of Jikargachha Press Club; and several other local journalists.

They strongly condemned and protested the case filed against journalist Monir, terming it a conspiracy to harass him.

In a joint Protest statement, Benapole Press Club President Mohsin Milon, Ekattor TV journalist Muslim Uddin Pappu,  SATV journalist Sheikh Nasir Uddin, Baishakhi TV journalist Selim Reza, Ekhon TV journalist Moshiar Rahman, Nagorik TV journalist Sheikh Sadaf Hossain, and Deepto TV journalist Al Mamun, among others, expressed their solidarity with Monir and demanded immediate withdrawal of the false case.
