The country’s point-to-point inflation increased to 8.36 percent in September, up from 8.29 percent in August, according to the latest data released by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
In comparison, September last year saw an inflation rate of 9.92 percent.
The report shows that both food and non-food sectors contributed to the rise. Food inflation increased to 7.64 percent from 7.60 percent in August, while non-food inflation rose to 8.98 percent from 8.90 percent. Last year, these rates were 10.40 percent for food and 9.50 percent for non-food items.
Rising prices of food items, housing, education, and healthcare have been key factors pushing overall inflation higher. Analysts also pointed to exchange rate fluctuations and increased import costs as contributing to the rise in consumer prices.
