Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) has announced a reduction in the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), lowering the cost of a 12-kg cylinder by Tk 29 for the month of October.

Effective from 6 PM on Tuesday, the price of a standard 12-kg LPG cylinder will now be Tk 1,241, down from Tk 1,270 in September.

BERC Chairman Jalal Ahmed, speaking at a press briefing, said the adjustment reflects changes in Saudi Contract Price (CP), the global benchmark Bangladesh uses to set LPG rates.

The price of autogas; LPG used as fuel in vehicles, has also been cut by Tk 1.38 per litre.

For October, the new autogas price stands at Tk 56.77 per litre at consumer level, compared to Tk 58.15 in September.

The revised prices are based on Saudi Aramco’s October CP, with propane priced at USD 495 per metric tonne and butane at USD 475.

Using a 35:65 ratio of propane to butane, BERC calculated an average benchmark of USD 482 per tonne to determine the new rates.
