The newly appointed High Commissioner of Pakistan to Bangladesh, Imran Haider, paid a courtesy call on Food and Land Adviser Ali Imam Majumder at his secretariat office on Tuesday.

The adviser welcomed the High Commissioner to Bangladesh. During the meeting, the two sides discussed various matters of mutual interest, including rice imports from Pakistan.

Earlier, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 14 January 2025, between Bangladesh and Pakistan for the import of 200,000 tonnes of rice on a government-to-government (G2G) basis.

Highlighting the importance of regional connectivity, Adviser Majumder said that under the current interim government, cargo vessels from Pakistan’s Karachi Port have started arriving directly at Chattogram Port, which has significantly enhanced bilateral trade activities.

He added that previously, Pakistani goods had to be imported through third countries, which increased both time and cost.

The Pakistani High Commissioner thanked the adviser and expressed optimism about further strengthening cooperation between the two brotherly nations to enhance trade and contribute to the well-being of their peoples.

During the meeting, Pakistan’s Political Counsellor Kamran Dungal, Food Secretary Md Masudul Hasan, and other senior officials of the ministry were present.
