Expressing his admiration for the veteran wicketkeeper-batter, Asif Mahmud said, “I hope many of our players will follow Mushfiq Bhai and reach the milestone of 100 Tests. Mushfiq Bhai has been part of our childhood memories. Whenever Bangladesh’s situation seemed tough, seeing him on the field gave us comfort. We thought, ‘Now it will be stable, he will score some runs, and the team can hold its ground.”
Mushfiqur ended Day 1 unbeaten on 99 runs and is set to continue his innings tomorrow. The adviser added, “A little suspense is good. Hopefully, tomorrow we will see Mushfiq Bhai reach his century. There is still plenty of cricket left in him, and I hope he does not stop at his 100th Test.”
After the day’s play, Asif Mahmud presented Mushfiqur with a commemorative crest and personally congratulated him on reaching the historic milestone. Bangladesh Cricket Board President Aminul Islam and Grounds Committee Chairman Khaled Mashud were present during the ceremony.
