The non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to Bangladesh Isse Abdillahi Assoweh has called to harness Bangladesh’s trade and investment opportunities in Djibouti.
Assoweh made the call during a press conference at a hotel in the capital on Tuesday.
“To explore investment prospects for Bangladeshi entrepreneurs in Djibouti, and to increase Bangladesh’s export of goods, Djibouti is located in a highly attractive geo-strategic position. As it sits at the commercial gateway between Africa, the Middle East, and Asia—and with its strong infrastructure and security facilities—Djibouti could become an appealing destination for Bangladeshi businesses,” he added.
He highlighted that alongside the United States and various European countries, the African nation of Djibouti offers vast potential for expanding Bangladesh’s investment and business footprint.
Abdul Haque, the honorary consul of Djibouti in Bangladesh, also spoke about the upcoming visit of a Bangladeshi business delegation to Djibouti, scheduled for next January.
He noted that in line with Bangladesh’s goal of export diversification, investors can take advantage of tax exemptions and a favorable production environment in Djibouti’s economic zones.
The business leader said Bangladesh currently exports ready-made garments (RMG), pharmaceuticals, jute and jute goods, tea, home textiles, and beverages to Djibouti.
Business leaders from RMG, textiles, electronics, pharmaceuticals, and food-processing sectors were present at the event.
