Allied parties must contest polls under own symbols: HC

The High Court on Thursday dismissed a writ that questioned the legality of a provision requiring political parties to contest the upcoming national election under their respective electoral symbols, even if they form an alliance.

The High Court bench comprising Justice Fatema Nazib and Justice Fatema Anwar passed the order on Thursday.

Muzahedul Islam Shahin, an assistant attorney general, confirmed the matter to journalists.

Advocates Ahsanul Karim, Barrister Rashna Imam, Barrister Reshad Imam, and Barrister Sahedul Azam appeared for the writ petitioners. Representing the National Citizen Party (NCP) in opposition to the writ were Advocates Mohammad Hossain Lipu, Zahirul Islam Musa, Azmal Hossain and Najmus Sakib.
